Race for Their Lives 2012
On Saturday, September 15, 2012 Furry Friends Network will hold its 7th annual Race for Their Lives at Gifford Pinchot State Park, Conewago Day Use Area. This event includes a 5K trail run and 2-mile fun walk and helps to raise desperately needed funds for veterinary care for the animals in our program as well as spay/neuter surgeries for stray and feral cats in our community. Your help will make a significant difference in the lives of these homeless and unwanted animals as 100% of our funds are directed to their care.
Please join us this year for the Amazing Race to Save More Lives. Dogs provide life saving services for humans every day. They are our ears, eyes and hands; sniff out bombs, cancer and drugs; risk their lives in pursuit of criminals, search for the missing and even the dead. Now is the time for humans to step up to save the lives of those who unselfishly serve us.
Please help us save more animals like Chino and Kirkley. Chino, a 7-year old Pit Bull mix, lived as a stray in Harrisburg for four years. Chino's amazing yet so amazingly sad story began when found in a dumpster in Athens, GA. She was stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver and covered with bite wounds on her face, neck and chest. She was likely used as a bait dog for dog fighting. After recovery she traveled to Pennsylvania with her rescuer in 2008 and was placed in a home in Dover. Her new man was military and later deployed; and Chino was given to a girlfriend, who apparently then gave Chino to someone else. Somehow Chino again became a lost soul and lived on the streets of Harrisburg until some very concerned humans stepped up to finally rescue her from her ordeal in January 2012. Despite being twenty pounds underweight with advanced kidney damage from untreated Lyme Disease, Chino again has a life filled with love and happiness.
Kirkley, a 5 year old Bassett Hound/Beagle mix, was also found as a stray. Kirkley not only had Lyme Disease but was also Heartworm positive. He is one happy fellow and feeling so much better despite the harsh medical treatment required to kill the heartworms. Both Chino and Kirkley have had difficult lives, yet they are so amazingly happy and joyful for the love and care given them each day in their foster homes.
