Sammy
To My Sammy - Who Rescued Who
I wasn’t looking for a Dog, just checking out the site
But there you were, I saw that face and made the call that night
In big bold print URGENT Sammy will die if he does not get a home,
It’s the disease Animal Shelters have, the “Over Crowded Syndrome”
Get him out, do what it takes, to keep him on this earth
I had no idea, how that call, had just increased my worth
Abused, withdrawn and scared, you came to me that day
Your trust was instant, unconditional love, I felt it right away
I’d come home and there you’d stand, despite what my mood may be
You’d wag your tail and jump around so happy to see me
I’d rub your head and scratch your ears and tell you “Oh Good Boy”
Out in the yard you’d get your ball and chase it with such joy
So young and playful in great health, with lots of love to give
I knew we’d have a happy life so many years to live
We go for walks and go for rides, you always went along
In our hearts we both knew, our friendship was life long
With lots of love and help, from all whom you befriended
You became the sweet loving dog, which God sent as intended
Then one night, in just a blink our worlds again destroyed
I sat with you and cried so hard, my heart an empty void
I lay my head upon your back, begging it not be
You did not move nor tilt your head, my world changed instantly
Now I come home to an empty spot, you no longer welcome me
Your wagging tail and joyous face are just a memory
I hope some day when it’s my time, the Rainbow Bridge is true
And once again we share the love that started with Rescue!
Special Thanks to PetFinder.com, All Sammy’s friends at Oscar’s Pet Resort, Furry Friends Network and my family and friends for making Sammy’s short life with us the greatest life he deserved! My Sincere Gratitude! Tracey Stubbs
