A few months back we had lost one of our two cats to kidney failure. My husband and I took it really hard when we had to let Elwood go. We both loved him and knew that no other cat could take his place. As the days went on we noticed that our other cat Jake was really missing his brother so Jim and I decided that it was time to look for a new addition to our family. We all needed it. I was searching Petfinder and looking at all the cats that were in need of forever homes but none of the pictures helped. All I could do was think about Elwood. One day when I was going home from work I stopped into PetSmart to get cat food for Jake. I had to go to see the cats. They were all so cute. There was one there I really liked. So I called Jim and we decided to go and see her on Saturday. When we arrived we were told that the cat we were interested in was already adopted. I was really disappointed but I did know that that meant there was one less cat without a forever home because we would keep searching for a match for our family. Jim and I spent 2 hours holding cats and kittens of all colors and ages but none of them felt right. Then we were introduced to Sunkist. He just melted in my arms. I didn't want to put him down and he didn't want to let me go. He was so lovable. After holding him for about an hour I said "he is it". So we filled out an application for him and a few days later, he was ours! He fits in perfect with our family. Our other cat Jake took to him right away. When we brought Sunkist in the house we put the carrier down to take our coats off and Jake jumped up on the carrier, started sniffing and purring instantly. He was so happy to have a new friend. The two weeks that followed were funny. We put Sunkist in his own room so he could get use to Jake and our Dog Bandit. The office door is glass so they kept sniffing under the door and rubbing on the glass to try to get to each other. Now they will sleep together on the same chair. They are so cute together.
