Sammy was a Yellow Labrador Retriever that had a bleak future after being brought into a local shelter as a stray. Poor Sammy was no young pup at 12 years old, didn’t get around very fast, came down with kennel cough (dog cold) and would sometimes lose his footing. But, Sammy had an amazing spark for life and unconditional love for people.

Some thought Sammy would have been better off being humanely euthanized. But, letting Sammy die in a shelter wasn’t an option for Furry Friends Network. FFN saw that he still had much to offer and a strong desire to live. Although knowing that his medical bills would be great and his chances for adoption slim, FFN still brought Sammy into its foster care program. Sammy was able to live with his Foster Mom, Chris, in a warm, loving home and was part of a family – something he was longing to have and so much deserved.

Sammy needed much medical attention during his 3 months with FFN to make him as comfortable and happy as possible. Sadly, on January 16, 2009, he became gravely ill very quickly and crossed over the rainbow bridge. Sammy touched the lives of rescuers and shelter staff alike – and reminded us how important one life can be. We will never forget Sammy and will continue to strive to save lives, one animal at a time.

Please consider making a contribution to FFN, in memory of Sammy, so that more animals like him can happily live out their senior years, and for one final time, experience the love and devotion they showed throughout their lives.
